Tribe Friday pay ode to their roots on nostalgic album 'Hemma'

Swedish indie alt-rock band Tribe Friday makes an exhilarating return to the music scene with their sophomore album Hemma, a reflective yet unapologetically bold collection that pays ode to their roots in the Swedish bubblegum emo scene.

The album title translates to "Home" in Swedish and the core message is one that delves into coming to terms with what home means to you and how it has shaped you.

While “Swimsuit,” comes alive with catchy guitar riffs and poignant self-improvement lyrics against a big indie chorus, “'Me and All My Friends,” explores mental health themes and the feeling of being an outsider, delivered over a classic 2010s indie riff and a meticulously layered rhythm section that includes cowbells, handbells, and xylophones.

Their most recent single “Salt Clouds,” navigates traditional emo territory, merging playful indie rock with heartrending lyrics about coming of age and the complexities of leaving one's hometown.

Moving from nostalgia to grief, through anger to apathy, to finally land in reluctant acceptance, the album makes for a nostalgic and emotionally charged sonic experience that offers solace and contemplation in equal doses.

Commenting on the album, the band says “We wear the inspirations we gathered in our formative years on our sleeves on this record, and we do so proudly. To us, it’s a true emo record. To you, it might be something completely different.”

Having made an impactful entrance into the music scene with their debut LP, Bubblegum Emoin 2022, Tribe Friday have carved out a niche with blend of emo and indie rock, taking us through themes of self-deprecation, identity, confusion, love, and the contemplation of mortality with plenty of wit, vibrance and charm.
