Alyssa Gallarneau's debut album For The Record, arrives as a richly detailed introduction to an artist unafraid to wear her heart on her sleeve.
Moving between pop, folk, and singer-songwriter territory, the Chicago and Bloomington-based musician builds a world that feels deeply personal, drawing from experiences of love, faith, longing, and the often complicated process of figuring out who we are.
Across the record, Gallarneau proves herself to be a storyteller, crafting songs that ooze with vivid imagery.
Much of For The Record was shaped across different corners of the world, with songs taking inspiration from everything from mission trips in Mexico to moments much closer to home. That sense of place runs throughout the album, giving each track its own distinct atmosphere.
"I approached many songs as if they were a scene in a film," Gallarneau explains. "I wanted the album to reward repeated listens, and hopefully reveal new details each time through."
The project also sees the artist partnering with acclaimed UK producer Ian Barter, whose polished yet organic production gives the album a warmth that complements Gallarneau's reflective songwriting.
Having already generated significant momentum with earlier singles "Love Business (Sha-Boom)," "SoHo," and "Consider This The End," For The Record expands on that promise with a collection that feels both cohesive and varied. Standout moments include the focus track "I Don't Want To Think About You," a song written alongside Gallarneau's sister Brittany, that explores the frustration of trying to move on from someone who remains impossible to forget.
Elsewhere, tracks such as "Willow Tree," "Ocean Air," and "All's Fair in Love & War" further showcase Gallarneau's ability to pair memorable melodies with emotionally honest songwriting. On For The Record, she delivers a debut that feels thoughtful, sincere, and impressively self-assured.
