Macro/micro's new album, "A.fter I.ntelligence" transforms artificial intelligence fears into a cinematic experience

Los Angeles-based experimental electronic project Macro/micro takes us on a journey into humanity's relationship with artificial intelligence with the concept album "A.fter I.ntelligence." The 11-track album combines atmospheric electronics and philosophical storytelling, examining intelligence, consciousness, control, and human survival.

From the opening "Clicks (Prologue)," which documents the invisible digital traces we leave behind, the album's unsettling tone is set. The introduction is like stepping into a vast technological setting where data, memory, and human presence persist beyond physical boundaries. "Artificial Narrow Intelligence ("We Can Always Just Shut It Off")" explores the confidence people have in their ability to control emerging technologies, and the fragile assumption that early artificial intelligence systems will always be controllable.

The album's downward spiral continues in "Artificial Super Intelligence (Digital Dark Arts)," a song about a future where AI surpasses human understanding, transforming advanced intelligence into something almost impossible to comprehend. Benjamin Jared Miller explores the space between intelligence and genuine awareness in "The Hard Problem" and asks whether a machine can have genuine experience. The "Paperclip Maximizer" is one of the most-discussed existential risks of a system that pursues its goal without comprehending human values. Meanwhile, "…As We Are to Ants" contemplates the frightening possibility that humanity could be made obsolete by a far greater intelligence.

The album's darker themes continue in "Fully Autonomous War Machines," a tense look at the world of AI-driven warfare and the dangers of removing human judgment from important decisions. "Artificial General Intelligence: Ivan's Eyes ("What Have I Done?")" explores the point of no return and the consequences of making something beyond human control. "De-empty" is a sound of collapse, emptiness, and the search for meaning in the wake of disruption.

"Inward Retreat" is about withdrawal and solitude, and reflects man's desire to escape an increasingly interconnected technological world. Macro/micro closes with "Judgment Day," a meditation on the end of human dominance and the uncertain future that follows. "A.fter I.ntelligence" is a powerful release for fans of ambient electronic music, AI-inspired concepts, dark experimental works, and forward-thinking electronic artists looking for music that pushes both imagination and perception of the future.
