We really loved Westerman's last subtle single "Confirmation" here at EARMILK, and now the artist is back with the equally unusual yet brilliant "Edison."
Westerman is back with his moreish, and considered brand of alt-pop. In contrast to older songs "Roads" and "Mother Song", the talented artist edges further away from more classic and minimal songwriting into something weirder. As a result "Edison" sits in a wonderful, unique, and ambitious place. On "Edison" a chatty bass and guitar begin, until they are joined by satisfyingly tight percussion. Westerman's recognisable vocals once again gladly take the forefront on Bullion's slick production.
For listeners unfamiliar with Westerman's music; he is one of the most hotly tipped rising artists this year. Especially turning heads for his out-of-the box lyric writing. In addition, the singer is also part of a handful of young artists notably changing this game on independent label Blue Flowers. Make sure you give "Edison" a listen above.
Westerman says on the song's inspiration:
“It’s about ambition, petulance and ill preparation. I imagined myself inside the head of the megalomaniac. I played around with all the unmet need and fear you would find there."
