London-based singer-songwriter Austel has released her new single “I’m No Home.”
Her first single since the release of her debut album Dead Sea in 2024, “I’m No Home” is Austel’s answer to the perpetual human question of who we really are.
On the track, Austel muses that “the unending act of seeking ‘wholeness’ is perhaps what is so complex and beautiful about being alive.’
Mixed by Austel herself, the track opens up with a gentle melody played on her grandmother’s piano, before unfolding into a chorus of synths and featuring vocals from Heren Wolf, BLÁNID and Liv Marshall.
Austel’s trademark sweet, warm vocals sing but I’m no home/I’m no closer to loving/I’m no home/I’m no closer to learning to let go. The lyrics really capture the sense of not feeling like you are truly yourself, and the anxiety and guilt that can come along with that.
Accompanied by a striking image taken on a Norwegian mountain, the single was inspired by Austel’s self-confessed “craving for biophilia,” and the way nature can diminish the sense of “human self-importance.”
