One of Ireland's most promising prospects Active is back with a self-produced single "Pay The Price".
Bursting onto the scene in Ireland in 2018, Active has been a mainstay in the rotation of Irish hip-hop fans. After the release of his EP Youth in 2019, Active took a break from music to focus on his final year of school. Fresh out the binds of education, Active looked to focus up on his craft and has been dropping a slew of singles including "Be There" and "Food Chain" in 2021. Clearly back in his groove, he is back with his third bite of the apple that is 2021 on his new single "Pay The Price".
Active flexes his ability to be as diverse as he can be with his flows on this one. He bounces between laid back, in the pocket, head bopping wordplay to intricate, intrinsic, pinpoint accurate speed flows. Underneath all this technical skill there is some great content as well. Active reflects on his views on growing up as the son of an immigrant and how that effected him in his day-to-day life growing up in Ireland. He expresses his views on racial inequality as well as telling how hard he has work at such a young age to be present in the scene right now. Pair this with some simple yet sophisticated trap production with sputtering hi-hats, hard kick drums and a flute based synth melody, you are onto something special. A pretty catchy chorus is the only thing left and Active excuses this perfectly.
Active is not afraid to wear his heart on his sleeve and give his opinion. I can see that being one of the things that draws people into following him. He stands for what he stands for and he is unapologetic in his approach. It just so happens that the music is really good as well… a win-win!
