Producer Neon Brown switches things up as he goes into the vocal booth on his new single “The Bringer of Light.” The track helps showcase his songwriting and to some degree singing skills alongside the main vocal talent Kim Dawson while Bay Area’s Mark Clifford goes wild on the vibraphone.
Brown's layered production is one of the key ingredients here and is as ethereal as a dream. From the soft drums, lush dreamy pads, and of course a hearty vibraphone section played by Clifford all add up to a calming tune. On the other hand, the combination of Dawson's breathy vocals and Brown's add an emotional touch to it all. While there are no verses per se, the vocalists act as a melodic accompaniment to the rich production and also serve to tell the story of the insidious loop of violence the world has come to normalize. At the end of it all, they both hope for sunny and brighter days in the midst of the chaos.
This concept is brought to life in the track’s teaser video that was shot and edited by Chelsea Chorpenning and Neon Brown. It stars Marcellus Epps, who can be seen running through a dire, haunting landscape that inevitably depicts the world going dark.
The Bringer of Light” will appear on Brown’s forthcoming LP of the same title, due out in 2021. Get it on all DSPs here.
