We hit the streets of Boston with the city’s own legendary Big Shug in his slick new video for “Stay The Course,” a soulful and contemplative burner off his new LP, The Diamond Report. The track displays his elder statesman status as he brings wisdom and positivity with his bars that essentially advise the listener to learn from life’s obstacles and just keep it moving forward. Backed by a solid instrumental by Elevated Music, the listener can feel an authentic and personable level of clarity to the entire track that makes Shug’s lyrics resonate much more.
The video is directed by Ill Mannered Films (Redman, Cypress Hill), and centers on the Gang Starr Foundation member and, more importantly, his rhymes. While there are some clever edits and additional touches that bring life to the visuals, they mostly serve to send home the message in Shug’s words.
