On Tuesday morning, singer/songwriter, Omar Apollo, released his music video for "Kickback".
Since dropping his EP, Friends, Omar Apollo has been putting out visuals for the project including videos for "Ashamed", "So Good", and "Trouble". At the same time, the Mexican-American emerging artist has been touring and releasing live performance videos for his own music and even a cover of "Edge of Desire" by John Mayer.
"Kickback" was directed by Matthew Dillon Cohen and edited by Dylan Edwards. Cohen is also the director of Clairo's "Flaming Hot Cheetos" and 6lack's "Pretty Little Fears".
Omar told i-D that the song is essentially about “having fun with friends,” which reflects in the music video as he and his friends enjoy a day on a yacht. After dancing around having a good time, the R&B singer goes for a walk around town and returns to the beach for a nap. The video ends with him falling asleep during a storm and being struck to death by lightning. So you could say, Apollo goes from kicking back to kicking the bucket.
Currently, the Indianan is touring on the Speed of Sound Tour until December 15th. Catch him on one of the dates as the year closes or you can connect to Omar Apollo at the following links:
