Unique sound design remains at the "BACKBONE" of Dutch duo DROELOE's stellar new single – a future bass standout featuring the notable vocals of Nevve. 2017 marked a breakout year for that act comprised of Hein Hamers and Vincent Rooijers, who found a strong ally in bitbird, and label head San Holo. Following their remarkable debut EP A Moment In Time, DROELOE present yet another feat of emphatic melodic bass mastery – "BACKBONE," featuring Nevve. The artists previously collaborated with Nevve on one of my favorites from their catalogue, the playful stomper "Jump." To compare the two tracks side-by-side shows development in both lyrical subject matter and tone – the DROELOE dudes are maturing and so is their music.
The pair have quickly established a signature sound that is at once recognizable and refreshing with each subsequent release, and "BACKBONE" is no exception. The second you hear that twinkling lighthearted piano dance across a couple bars, you know. In come the punchy synths and a heavy low-end, accented by Nevve's softly powerful delivery of the biting lyrics. The subject matter of which, along with the track's meandering composition, convey the uncertainty associated with the process of creation.
Don't miss DROELOE on the summer festival circuit.
