Denver-based producer Ian Snow turns inward on "Shadowban," a dark and melodic bass odyssey that finds the freeform artist trading his usual high-octane drops for something more introspective. Built from immersive synths and ethereal textures, the track marks a notable shift in tone for an artist known for genre-bending intensity.
The song grew out of a strange real-world moment. Early in his career, one of Snow's videos, a joke bit involving a litter box, got flagged and removed in certain countries. "China really didn't like that," he says of the incident. What started as an odd footnote became something more significant once he began examining how deeply his online presence had taken over his actual life.
"I shut everyone out in the earlier days to go after this, which led to me being the most depressed mentally and physically that I ever had been," Snow admits. He now sees the disruption as an unexpected gift. "Maybe being shadowbanned was what I needed at the time to step away from the social time suck and actually appreciate the beauty of real life."
That tension between digital visibility and genuine connection runs through the entire track, giving it an emotional weight that distinguishes it from typical bass music fare.
"Shadowban" follows "Hypercoaster," Snow's D&B-driven thrill ride that's found a home on Spotify's Dubstep Don playlist and become a live staple, powering standout sets at ILLfest and his first festival headline slot at Backyard Bash. He's set to bring that same energy to Symmetry Festival this October, with additional dates expected soon.
Raised in Chicago and now based in Denver, Snow has built a reputation for fusing crystalline melodic sensibilities with crushing low-end pressure, a combination that's landed him releases on Heaven Sent, WAKAAN, Subsidia, Ophelia, and Bassrush. His live shows, which have touched down at Beyond Wonderland, Lightning in a Bottle, and Lost Lands, reflect the same restless creativity that defines his music, where vulnerability and weight coexist without contradiction.
