The Russ Liquid Test — the latest project of New Orleans-based Russell Scott, joined by Andrew Block and Deven Trusclair — just dropped “Communication Breakdown,” the latest single off their World Gone Crazy EP, and it’s pretty great. Fusing something of a warehouse party vibe with a taste of the brass all-star lead’s hometown, the track is enough to get anyone hype for the live electronic trio’s Suwannee Hulaween debut next week.
“Communication Breakdown” juxtaposes some especially liquid drum’n’bass with soaring flute-heavy funk. It dances around that sweet spot between classic funk and future-thinking electronic production similarly championed by the likes of Pretty Lights, Griz, and Gramatik — and then goes in. “Communication Breakdown” is exactly the heady type of track that makes listeners yearn to witness it thrown down live.
The track marks The Russ Liquid Test's final single being released from their forthcoming World Gone Crazy EP, which is due to drop 11/3 on Griz’s All Good Records.
