San Diego's Kicks N Licks are a duo with a promising future in the electronic scene. The producers have a lengthy string of remixes and originals that marry pop elements to melodic future bass works and heavy dubstep rhythms. Kicks N Licks have remixed the likes of Sound Remedy, Hopium and most recently added their flair in a sweet rendition of Ember Island's "Can't Feel My Face" cover. With an easily admirable sound, Kicks N Licks are beginning to make waves while just having wrapped up their North American headlining tour "Young Minds" named after their EP from last December. The EP hinted at a future bass direction and highlighted a maturing solidity in their sound. The Young Mind Remix EP is also available for free download today and features remixes by artists such as Florals and Dita and Dumont.
Today EARMILK is excited to premiere Kicks N Licks latest, "Mind 2.0". Opened with an enticing and repeated piano riff, Lauren Hunter's vocal work wraps itself in luminescence in the wavy synths of the track. Subtle dubstep references sit amidst angelic chopped vocals and graceful rhythms creating a unique tension of soft and hard. As a result, the track is a collaboration between opposing characteristics, in gritty dubstep growls versus light and emotive sweeps. By pairing harder undertones with feathery atmospheres, "Mind 2.0" delivers a rare yin and yang in electronic music.
