London-based singer-songwriter CATLEA shares their compelling journey to sobriety on striking and emotive single "Someone's Got To," channeling personal transformation into an inspiring tale on overcoming self-destructive patterns and addiction.
Built on acoustic guitar, live drums and melodic vocals, the acoustic-pop number is as intimate and frank as it weaves an impactful and raw tale on Catlea's recovery from alcohol addiction. An expansive offering with a quiet tenderness, the track breaks down old habits and relationships to usher us towards a hopeful note rooted in self-acceptance. With poignant lyrics juxtaposed against spacious sonics, the empowering track channels the courage required to choose yourself when recovery demands it most.
Rooted in the discomfort of facing your demons and the meaningful choices that beckon lasting healing, the thoughtful production leaves us with a warming note of self-love, survival and hope. Holding pain and promise in equal halves, the restrained yet sharp track offers an alluring glimpse at their upcoming EP Aftermath, leaving us in anticipation of the cathartic moment where heartache transforms into peace.
Speaking of the track, Catlea says, “When I originally wrote the song, it wasn't written with the intention of getting better, it was more of a hopeful thing; an acknowledgment that I needed to love myself more and take better care of myself, because I wasn't doing that at the time. Months later, after quitting drinking for good, I returned to the song and was finally able to record the choruses. Cosmically, it felt like ‘Someone’s Got To’ wasn’t allowed to exist until it was true. Finishing the track required myself to live the vow the lyric had set, to find the strength to love myself.”
Having experimented and refined their genre-bending Americana-tinged indie-pop sound, Catlea continues to built momentum with their ability to strike a fine balance between vulnerability and strength within their enchanting musicality.
