I know that the drippy, codeine laden R&B sound that The Weeknd cultivated back in 2011 is still all the rage right now, but I'm going to be honest for a minute and say that it's become increasingly difficult to try to be invested in the multiple singers with extraordinary voices who all sort of do the same type of songs and highlight the same type of personality.
Luckily Anik Khan is flipping the style and making it completely his own in "Mantra." The track still hosts the slow beats and rolling snares, but somehow makes it entirely unique to his persona. There's definitely an ode to the greats who started the movement, but Khan is no follower.
