New track "Off The Ground" from 22 year-old Ontario based artist ShaqIsDope has all of the elements that create great independent hip-hop- old school feels and the desire for change. Ironically enough, he even has "Shaq" as part of his moniker, and whether intentional or not, it really adds to the soft spoken 90's vibes. Produced by Pitt Tha Kid it has that OG flow of "Gotta be more to life than this," while falling short of being typical.
One of my favorite parts are the samples that intro "Off Tha Ground" because they add an insiders view of his struggle in the music industry. We have all the woes of hip-hop culture here, notoriety while being broke, fake friends and the uphill battle to get your voice heard. "Off The Ground" is a tease from his upcoming mixtape "Black Frames" and bottom line, it is one smooth cut.
