Damn Common, why you gotta be so promiscuous? Cocaine 80’s, the laidback Chicago hip-hop outfit created by NO I.D., released their new track “Congratulations” and boy is it ever smooth. Being the lyrical raconteur that he is, Com constructs his dilemma through a dismal and envious tone supplemented by I.D’s minimalistic instrumental. Does he tell his best friend, the groom, that his soon to be wife has a long track record of previous partners, including him? Or should he just keep his mouth shut? The closing lines provided by Jhene Aiko and James Fauntleroy convey a great dénouement as we realize that, in order to appreciate the good in our lives, we need to remember the bad moments.
