UK-based music connoisseurs, We Plug Good Music (WPGM) are celebrating the 10 year anniversary of their debut mixtape A Prelude to the Future with this special reissue. The original release was aimed to promote and showcase emerging acts from all over the globe and a mix of genres. From rapper and producer AKS (who has been featured on EM here), singer/songwriter Midian Mathers to Nigerian alternative soul musician Bez Idakula.
The reissue also has a bittersweet element to it as it serves as a tribute to one of the project’s original associate producers EOM, who passed away in 2018 due to complications from Scleroderma. The Juno Award winner EOM produced three tracks on the original 2010 mixtape and has gone on to produce for luminaries such as Anderson. Paak, Blu, Dumbfounded, Chamillionaire, and Asher Roth.
The project opens up with "Zuciya Daya" bolstered by Bez's sublime vocals over soulful acoustic guitar riffs. This is followed by Shanaz Dorsett's heartfelt song "Imagination" produced by the late EOM who laces her with a moody soulful/hip-hop beat. Poet, playwright, and performer Yomi Sode shows up on "HeSheThey" and delivers a passionate spoken-word piece on the meaning of success while Nigerian singer Waje revels in her own glory on the upbeat "To The Top." Midian Mathers shows up on two tracks, "Heartbeat" and the final cut "In Your Eyes" where she really struts her vocal cords. Other notable tracks include "Ain't Seen Nothing" where UK rapper Chockz lays his candid thoughts on EOM's rousing instrumental and Kel's endearing love story on "Little Things."
Proceeds from the anniversary reissue will be donated to the Scleroderma Foundation in honor of EOM. Get the entire mixtape on all DSPs here.
