South-London alt-electronic-pop duo Internet Cafe unveil debut EP Ground Floor, weaving a relatable tale of finding your way through life as a young adult.
Rooted in vibrant yet gritty sonics, the four-track collection sways seamlessly between alternative-electronic sensibilities, luscious hyperpop and pop flourishes. From the expansive atmosphere of "The Hills," and driving beats of emotive number "Sign Of the Times," to the glitchy guitar layers of "Old Habits" and the trip-hop textures of "Lost Signal," each track is nuanced and enchanting, balancing a profound sonic depth with radiant commercial appeal.
Speaking about the single, the duo explain: “Ground Floor’ is a selection of some of the earliest music we made and hopefully lays the foundation of what’s to come. The 4 songs act as an honest reflection of how we’ve been feeling… familiar generational resentment and the realities of being a young person growing up in a big city. The EP takes its name from the ground floor flat we share, where we’ve written, recorded, and produced most of our music since meeting on a dating app a few years ago. It felt right to dedicate the project to this space as it was the birth place of Internet Cafe and our relationship.”
Consisting of Imi Smith and Luke Ferrero, Internet Cafe deliver unapologetic reflections of their experiences wrapped in genre-hopping sonics that showcase their versatility. Having met on a dating app and realising their shared love for music, the duo have shaped a raw and resonant yet warming artistry that has seen them building a strong sense of momentum.
