London-based Brazilian artist MOMO. makes music that is shaped by movement. Having lived across Brazil, Angola, the US, and parts of Europe before settling in the UK, his sound is a beautiful amalgamation of influences, and that can be heard in his new single, “Egum Eô.” Taken from his upcoming eighth album, Tum Tum Tum, the release is set to be a bilingual project that leans into ideas of rhythm, continuity, and pushing forward, with contributions from Brazilian icon Marcos Valle and Smoke City’s Nina Miranda.
“Egum Eô” acts as a strong introduction to that world. Built around a loose, rolling groove, the track gradually unfolds, led by warm percussion and a bright horn line that lifts everything around it. Recorded live in South London with a close group of collaborators, MOMO. explains, “Egum Eô feels like an invocation. In Candomblé, Egum refers to ancestral spirits, and the phrase appeared naturally while we were playing, following the Afro-Brazilian pulse of the drums.”
“Egum Eô” emits a sense of warmth and community, feeling like a genuine moment captured in real time and setting the tone for a record that’s rooted in rhythm, collaboration, and instinct. At a time when things can feel quite heavy, MOMO. brings a sense of lightness, delivering a playful and uplifting atmosphere.
