Clave Especial share riveting new EP 'AFTERAFTER', one that inspires musical collaboration

The Salinas-based musical collective Clave Especial have just unleashed their latest EP AFTERAFTER. In five songs, Clave Especial lean fully into the idea that regional Mexican music is no longer bound by geography, it’s a network. The new EP links artists from Sinaloa to California under a shared aesthetic that blends corridos tradition with a distinctly modern, street-level sensibility.

Framed around the concept of “different cities, one shared frequency,” AFTERAFTER features collaborations with the likes of Fuerza Regida, Los Gemelos de Sinaloa, Chuyin, and Chino Pacas. Instead of feeling like a compilation, AFTERAFTER moves with a clear sense of direction, anchored by Clave Especial’s ability to balance grit and melody while giving space to each featured artist.

The first single “FERRARI,” is the EP’s most immediate statement. Featuring Fuerza Regida and Los Gemelos de Sinaloa, the track captures the high-speed, high-stakes energy that defines much of the current wave of regional Mexican music. The song's luxury imagery meets street narrative, delivered with a confidence that explains its rapid climb across streaming platforms and charts. The single is the ultimate party anthem and is shared alongside a cinematic music video with the artists singing, hanging out and racing ferraris.

Elsewhere, “TRANKI TRANKI” with Chino Pacas leans into a more laid-back groove, showing the group’s flexibility. Melodic horns, over romantic vocals singing seductive lyrics all about living life to the fullest. Lyrics including, "Vente, morrita, que quiero tenerte / Te vuelves loca de repente," show this narrative. The chemistry between Clave Especial and Chino Pacas is electrifying. Then there is NUEVA TEMPORADA,” featuring Chuyin, which sets the tone with a sense of forward motion, while solo cuts like “EA EA EA” and “SCARY MOVIE” reinforce Clave Especial’s core identity, minimalist, rhythm-driven, and rooted in attitude.

What makes AFTERAFTER resonate isn’t just its features, but how it reflects a broader shift in the genre. Regional Mexican music, particularly in its corridos-adjacent forms, is increasingly shaped by diaspora experiences and digital connectivity. Clave Especial, hailing from Salinas, embodies that duality: tradition filtered through a contemporary, cross-border lens.

AFTERAFTER reinforces Clave Especial’s role not just as participants in the genre’s evolution, but as connectors within it. The music is strong, and it’s clearly being picked up far beyond the regions that inspired it.
