Boundary-pushing singer-songwriter Doc Backer expands on his existing portfolio of folk, rap, and rock with recent album BABBEL ON!, a collection that breaks down the convention of genres for a unique sound experience.
After releasing eight albums, one of which was a rap album, four of which were folk albums, and three of which were rock albums, this latest album with tinges of alternative rap saw Backer re-emerge from a creative struggle and disillusionment with the entertainment industry to craft a project that allures and excites us.
With a distinctive sound born out of collaboration with artists of various genres and styles, Backer’s ability to weave lyrical tales into catchy music allows him to stand out.
As Backer says, “The music is a vehicle for the lyrics,” rather than the other way around. This philosophy has led him toward collaboration, with one of Backer’s most popular songs being a remix with the dance and electronic music producer and DJ, R3HAB. The “Tequila” remix takes Backer’s existing summertime alternative hit and combines it with electronic dance music, relying on the song’s lyrics to join the distinctive musical sounds.
Backer’s dedication to creativity continues as he gears up for his upcoming 2025 album featuring experimental musician Gonjasufi, working to redefine the boundaries of lyrics and sound even further.
