Alt-punk act Loki X shapes a confident musical identity as Last Anarchists Standing delivering conceptual album The Anarchists Ice Cream Club, which weaves a hypnotic narrative that imagines a world where punk rock has been outlawed and classified as a mental illness. Laden with humour and poignance in equal parts, the album unfolds the enticing tale of of Patient X and his escape from his room in an asylum and together with the other patients to raid the cafeteria’s ice cream and put on a concert.
Built around a gritty DIY energy that gives way to a cinematic yet textured dystopian vibe, the immersive feel of the album is best captured by the bold but airy arrangement of focus track “Serenity,” led by a high-spirited rock edge and hazy harmonies. Other offerings like the anthemic “All In My Head,” further establish an expansive soundscape driven by melodic touches and energetic pulses in seamless turns.
Speaking of his process, Loki X says “I make music for me and the kids living in the middle of nowhere – to give them something that lets them know they aren’t alone, because that’s what music was for me.“
Led by a quiet yet powerful intent to bring people together through the power of his music, Last Anarchists Standing continues to challenge the status quo with each new release.
