Having debuted in just January of this year, West Yorkshire indie-pop duo Internet Raised maintain their promising trajectory with the sublimely smooth "Burning Sheets."

As much of the world slowly emerges from its lockdown and winter-induced hibernation towards the warmth of spring and summer, the tone of music shifts with it. With the past year's events unlike any other, its poignant influence can be felt in this summery lament for experiences just out of reach; as the duo outline in an email statement, “‘Burning Sheets’ is a song about letting your hair down. We wrote it in the middle of the first lockdown when all we wanted to do is go to town and have a drink.”

The duo of Oliver Pinder and Vanessa Maria garner a striking synergy, particularly in regards to their vocals, with their tenderly candid delivery creating a harmonious yin to yang. Their lyricism vividly details the blood-pumping thrill of meeting someone new during a night out on the town and refreshingly champions themes of the LGBTQ+ community as they go.

The instrumentation, comprised of softly strummed guitars, enveloping textured synth work and buoyant rhythms also realises these lyrical themes, with a dutifully rose-tinted hue. Despite the perhaps melancholic tone of "Burning Sheets," it still carries a thought-provoking, hopeful and uplifting vibe, and fills you with not only a relatable sense of yearning for the same memories but also for more music from this inspired new duo.
