Kudos to k?d for breathing new life into a overplayed track. “Starboy,” The Weeknd’s lauded collaboration with Daft Punk, has been out since last fall, and has since become a cross-genre favorite of emcees, radio hosts, wedding DJs, and probably your mom (edited version please!). k?d’s flip hits all his typical marks – the precocious EDM phenom follows closely in the vein of genre innovators Porter Robinson and Madeon with lofty, spacious melodies and glitchy video game influence. k?d’s talent and growing influence is clear; what’s next is his opportunity to define a lane all his own.
