It seems like music is moving faster these days, seeking love from people's short attention spans like desperate hands grabbing and reaching upwards from a ferocious crowd.
Bobby Uzóma caught my attention a couple months back because of his rejection of that fast-paced, glittery, sonically appealing look that so many artists are going for within the first ten seconds of their songs. Slow and contemplative, Bobby's songs take their time, gradually building up to a serene point of emotional stirrings to soothe the ears.
Yesterday, Bobby released his first track of 2017, called "Alone" and it's a nice refresher before diving back into the shiny world of pop and electronic music populating Spotify playlists and SoundCloud feeds. Meditative and icy in the beginning, "Alone" eventually escalates into two questions – "Do you worry about me? / Do you care about me when I'm all alone?" that hang like puffs of breath in cold winter air. The song is like time, gradually slowing down before it rights itself back again, signaling the end of the song. Perfect.
