When we first got our hands on the latest from Joris Voorn, we were shocked to realize how time flies. It's been nearly two years since the Dutch techno and electronic industry leader left his mark with his last and impressively critically acclaimed album, Nobody Knows, in 2014. And this week, Voorn has returned with his first solo material not just in 2016, but his first original music in about a year.
The Story Until Now is an EP that has a story to tell. The EP has the sign of any good long form release, as its two tracks have two different voice that together form one. The first, the Green Mix of "Dawn," is an underground deep house version of a banger. And the second, "Looks Fake Obviously," is deep and inrospective electronica track. Together, the EP is a short introduction to the depth in music that Voorn so often produces.
“With this release I’m making a bridge between last year and this year. Looks Fake Obviously is a dark haunting track with a sweet melody that slowly drags you into the light. Dawn (Green Mix) brings new life to a sound that once I was so familiar with, Detroit techno. Although this mix is more house than techno, it features characteristic melodies of the 90’s Detroit sound that I loved when I started to make music around the year 2000. This is only the first of a few Detroit inspired tracks that will surface this year. For me it’s like things went full circle, coming back to a sound where chord stabs, pads and warm bass sounds are very present.”
