As if Joker hadn't done enough to please me in the past few months, with an album on 4AD that's grimy perfection with a pop twist and an amazing show in New York City at Terminal 5, he just had to go and outdo himself with a BBC Radio 1 Essential Mix last night. Joker's bass-laden tunes will take you on a journey through every solar system in a way that no one else can; he's a unique producer with a really distinct sound that he accurately describes as "space boy goon music," a glorious blend of heavy old-school Bristol bass and something new and different.
This mix mostly casts his own tracks, many of which appear on The Vision, in a new light, but also interweaves them with sinister tunes from contemporaries like Benga, Gemmy, Skream, TC and Redlight. I would gladly give up my everyday life to translocate to Joker's "Purple City". Play this shit loud and get your subwoofers ready; I think mine might explode before the end of the night. Follow @Joker on Twitter for your daily dose. The tracklist can be found at BBC Radio 1's website.
Welcome to the void.
