On August 7th, singer-songwriter Ivy Levan released her debut album. Following her 2013 EP Introducing the Dame, the album release of No Good saw listeners continued enthrallment with her self-described “swamp pop,” filled with soulful, powerful vocals that head down a road into the darker levels of pop music. After contributing music to the soundtrack of the 20th Century Fox release Spy and releasing the lead single off of No Good entitled “Biscuits,” she has revealed another level of depth to her album with the release of “27 Club.”

A nod to those in the music industry like Amy Winehouse, Kurt Cobain  and Janis Joplin plagued by personal struggle, leaving their lives too early at age 27 to go on to become iconic figures, Levan’s songwriting powers through to address the fame-chasing struggle that many passionate artists deal with. Her voice conveys that pain in mesmerizing fashion, with production from Diplo rounding out that energy. Today, we have a first listen to "27 Club" from fellow LA-based artist Rusko, who has employed his familiarity with remixing pop tracks into electro house heavyweights in his take on the track.

On “27 Club,” Rusko lets Levan’s vocals properly shine, all ahead of a massive drum and bass adventure that employs the passion of Levan’s original vocals into hard-hitting electro and percussion. Understanding the toil behind the original track, Rusko has translated that energy into a remix that almost feels like a police chase.
