Singer-songwriter Keller Leggett debuted his EP, Ms. Tennessee, in 2025 and has been showcasing his skills through his ever-growing social media presence since. This hard work has culminated in his new single, “Calypso.”
A self-described “Y'allternative” track, this song hosts a perfect blend of folk instrumentation, indie vibes, and an upbeat feel, all while processing a crushing break-up.
“You should make it a sport / Record time at moving on / Ribbon around your neck a “we meant nothing” look on your face / Our love on the floor.”
Keller Leggett shared his perspective and the meaning behind the track. “The song itself is about breaking up with someone and then immediately regretting it. However, it's already too late, and the person has already moved on, showing that they never really cared in the first place.”
“Calypso” opens up with intricate arpeggios in the acoustic guitar. Gentle chord transitions slide across the strings and blossom into an edgy strummed pattern with a touch of dissonance to match the heartbreak in the lyrics.
Rhythmic drums keep the track steady as Leggett’s clear tone shines through, and warm vocal harmonies support underneath.
“Now it’s benadryl to sleep at night / Call you up to feel alive / The sky’s on fire when you’re in mind / But your phones on mute and you’re not mine.”
The stunning tone of the mandolin is introduced as the song progresses.
