Friends, Romans, Countrymen – lend me your ears. If you are looking for examples of a producer/producers that are redefining the definition of electronic dance music, stop listening to Worlds by Porter Robinson and any remix with the word Flume in the title and starting listening to Odesza. That is not to say that Odesza is the only artist out there pushing the boundaries, but with every release the Seattle duo has proved their ingenuity and has remained resilient and steadfast in a world over-saturated with generic appeal. Odesza is gearing up for their next full-length album In Returnfor release September 9th via Counter Records. In celebration of the release, the duo put out “Say My Name” (no it’s not a rework of the Destiny’s Child track) featuring the vocals of Zyra and some “additional chopped vocals” from Madelyn Grant. Soca percussion leads the track in with manipulated vocals accompanied with crunchy synth stabs and fluttering melodies. As the lyrics profess, “I need a sign or a signal. I’ve overthought everything I can think of, into a symbol.” Well friends stop overthinking and revel in the quality production of this single from Odesza.
