UK based label Terrorhythm Recordings, set up and ran by legendary bass music pioneer Plastician, have been steadily establishing themselves amongst electronic music scene's elite. With a whole host of strong releases under their belts including the likes of Ganz, Alexandre and Varisty, they have made sure that they're one of the most well respected record labels around at the moment.
Today heralds the release from one of Terrorhythm's brightest prospects, JD. Reid. The young Londoner, who's last EP 88 was one of my favourite releases of 2013, has today released his latest EP, Maneki Neko. The five track project, his first on Terrorhythm, demonstrates all of the producing styles that have earned Reid the fanbase and critic-love that he has received this past year. From the smooth lead synth lines on "Ralph", right through to the space-age pads on "On Wax", Maneki Neko is a bright, bouncy journey with an eclectic mix of hard hitting bass and plucky percussion, underlined by some tight and prominent drum beats that are bound to get you moving.
There are a whole host of different vibes on this EP, as Reid has left no bass-shaped stone unturned on his quest to create his perfect project. With disjointed synth sounds like the ones on "Toothpaste", to the warm bass-drenched happenings on the title track, there is definitely enough musical content on this EP to satisfy your electronic tinged taste buds.
