A$AP Rocky has gone all cinematic on us for his new cut “In Distress”. More specifically the figure head of the A$AP Mob has boldly gone where popular rappers are beginning to go in hooking up with Gesaffelstein for their contribution to the soundtrack for Divergent, a sci fi movie which is out this month. Mike Levy, better known as Gesaffelstein, is a French producer who boasts an impressive collaborative history including fellow Europeans Daft Punk and the ever experimental Kanye West. Rocky’s the latest to get involved with Gesaffelstein’s cold production and it’s hard not to compare his flow on the new track with Kanye’s on hyperactive “Black Skinhead”, which the Frenchman helped craft.
The soundtrack to Divergent will also feature Chance The Rapper and Kendrick Lamar but an A$AP flag is the first to stand in zero gravity, with an adventurous display from the Harlem star draped over some otherworldly production. "In Distress" is a dramatic track which looks ahead to a bleak future in the book-turned-movie but a bright one in the relationship between rap and heavy electronic music. Divergent is in theaters March 21st, with its soundtrack dropping on the 11th.
