It's Friday, and for most of us that means great things: the weekend, the party, and The Club. These last few weeks have been big ones, as the Winter Music Conference has been in full swing, and Ultra Music Festival continues for a second round, the first in its 15 year history. Keep a lookout for a recap of the madness from Steph Evans, and don't forget to support the artists by liking, following, and purchasing!
Bassjackers & Kenneth G
Duckface
Hysteria Recs 2013-03-20
HYS028
Bassjackers bring it back with an accomplice, Kenneth G, giving us the electro house ringer that we've been waiting for, "Duckface." Beginning with an ominous pinging and a slowly rising climb, the track soon drops into what one could call a devilish quacking sound that layers over a round bass beat. No wonder this work has already climbed into Beatport’s top 50 Electro house tracks, all while their work with Dyro, “Grid”, still sits in the top 25. It seems things will only continue to get better with these two, since most every track since 2011's “Mush Mush” has been a crowd pleaser. Last week saw the Dutch duo at Insomniac's Beyond Wonderland in Southern California, though they have already continued on to Miami and will be playing UMF tonight!

Cedric Gervais & Borgore
Deception
Spinnin' Records 2013-03-18
SP636
Asaf Borger, the Israeli producer known as Borgore, has been on a kick recently, not only producing noteworthy remixes (listen his rework of AWOLNATION's "Sail" on The Club – Week 45 ) but also foraying further into the house scene. Who better to pair him with than Cedric Gervais, the French born artist whose “Summertime Sadness” revision refuses to give up its chart-topping spot. Their track, “Deception”, carries clear traces of each artist’s unique sound, blending dub with house in a spectacular way. Sweeping electro house builds bring you up to the heavens, until it is cut short and utter madness descends upon you. When I think about dream collaborative efforts, this is what comes to mind. Keep a lookout this evening for Gervais' Essential Mix, beginning at 6PM PST.

An extremely honorable mention to Balsterjaxx, the Dutch duo of Thom Jongkind and Idir Makhlaf, who just released their Koala EP that includes the extraordinary track “Griffin”. It has Dutch banger written all over it and is one of those tracks you go to a festival hoping to hear. Also Wuki, who I featured last time I wrote The Club, for his track “TechnoGun”, which is available for free if you head over to his Facebook and give it a like. It’s an insane rollercoaster of highs and lows that plucks your brain from start to finish.
Arty
Together We Are (Audien Remix)
Big Beat Records 2013-03-18

Last weekend must have been one of the most thrilling of Arty’s life, considering he played at two huge electronic festivals held here in the US: Beyond Wonderland on Saturday and UMF on Sunday. It seems like only yesterday that I first listened to the Russian artist’s trance hit “The Wonder”, a track that caught my attention like few others in the genre had. What then could be better besides combining his skill with that of vocalist Chris James (“The Veldt”) to give us “Togther We Are”, then having the new American star Audien remix it? Not much. The inspirational progressive house track exudes good vibes, utilizing strong progressive builds on top of James’ signature voice. Check out Arty down in Miami Beach this Saturday and Sunday and Audien in Los Angeles on Satruday.

Avicii & Nicky Romero
I Could Be The One (DubVision Remix)
Universal Music 2013-03-15
Official remixes of Avicii and Nicky Romero’s “I Could Be The One” came out back at the beginning of March, but a more recent iTunes release included what I think is the best so far. While the last attempts left me slightly disheartened, DubVision, the brotherly duo of Steve and Victor Leicher from the Netherlands, have taken the track and truly made it their own. It didn’t feel like they were competing with the original, which is basically impossible to do. Rather they used the vocals sparingly, then incorporated a long build afterwards, separating the original’s signature from their vision.iTunes · DubVision on Facebook · DubVision on Soundcloud

So this is the Grab Bag, where anything and everything danceable might just appear. There have been many soundcloud hits swimming around the blogosphere, especially the infallible Viceroy and his remix of The Knocks’ “Magic”, as well as Justin Faust’s redo of “Comet” by The Champs. Other notable mentions are Shogun’s epic trance track “Drop”, along with Spartaque’s progressive/techno beauty, “Again” with Ange.
