Mashup Monday – We're back again with some of the freshest mashes to start your week off right. These are the mashes that are worth hearing, so stop you're searching and instead settle down at your computer… turn up your speakers… and get ready for that sweet nectar that only EARMILK can give ya. Let's GO!
Starting off this week is the prodigious French DJ Madeon. Ever since his "Pop Culture" video blew up the blogosphere last year, Madeon has been honing his craft and rising up the list of DJs that are a must to listen to. With this "Minimix" that was hosted on Annie Mac Radio, Madeon goes back to his roots and shows us how a master uses multi-samples to create a song in which almost everything flows together smoothly. On the other hand, LeeDM101 goes the opposite direction and creates a gorgeous 1v1 mash consisting of Penguin Prison (shout out to Jen for showing me Penguin Prison) and Snow Patrol. While "Snow Warning" seems simplistic, there's no denying the gorgeous melody that is formed with this pairing.
For those who are looking for mashes that are more electro-influenced, then I highly suggest you taking a listen to abSRD's collaborative effort with SLXY in their "Cinematography" mashup. With the initial instrumental sampling Deadmau5's "The Veldt" before transitioning to various edits ofPorter Robinson's "Language" and an edit of "The Veldt", abSRD and SLXY certainly highlight these electro in a top-notch manner with expertly placed vocals. For a heavier track (think dubstep-infused), then take a listen to DJ Schmolli who incorporates some old rock (Doro and Warlock) with some dubstep (Knife Party) with some pop vocals (Madonna) and more (Basement Jaxxand Linkin Park). It reads as an interesting combination, but Schmolli has always seemed to impress regardless of the samples.
Finally, I want to highlight the groovy (did I really just use that word?) mashup of my boy Wick-It The Instigator as he fuses some Fresh Prince with some Lovin Spoonful. It has an old school hip-hop sound which fits right into the style of Wick-It, and in turn makes for a perfect summer tune to play while driving around with the windows down in the city. So take a listen to the 20+ tracks that can be found below, and enjoy your 4th of July.
