Brooklyn-based trio Bushwick Princess mourns the limits of a fizzling relationship on emotive single "Temkins," weaving a nostalgic soundscape rooted in ethereal post-grunge, melodic 90s rock and shoegazed art rock.
A cathartic exploration of loneliness and messiness in deeply personal relationships, the kaleidoscopic track is built on gravelly vocals, angular guitars and rich bass strings that come together to create a honeyed and hypnotic musical experience that's as vulnerable as it is comforting. A visceral dive into an impasse in love, the track is gritty and magnetic as it peels back the layers of flaws in a relationship.
Speaking of the track, the trio says, “Sometimes being too close to someone prevents any real conversations or growth from happening, leading relationships to an impasse, stunted by stubbornness and too much shared experience. Sometimes, the best thing to do is find a way to accept their flaws and imperfections for exactly who they are and try to love them anyway, despite the hit to your pride in perhaps having to falsely admit you are wrong just to keep the relationship stronger in the long run. The song is an attempt to explore the sometimes-messy dynamics of deeply personal relationships.”
Striking a fine balance between personal narratives and resonant themes, the enriching production showcases the DIY spirit at the centre of Bushwick Princess' upcoming EP which is set to be emotive and powerful in equal parts.
