Some projects are designed to entertain, while others challenge listeners to step into an artist's evolving creative world. Succinct but deeply engaging, Kojo Kay offers a five-track EP, THIS DOESN'T FEEL GOOD BEING STUCK HERE IN THE SAME SPOT :(, that shows significant artistic development. The project is short at just 16 minutes and 35 seconds, but it doesn't waste any time in introducing a sound that feels adventurous, emotionally charged and refreshingly unpredictable.

The EP opens with a throwback to three past records that have already hinted at Kojo Kay’s desire to push past the familiar borders of melodic rap: THE BOYZ ALL WENT TO JUPITER, UNDERWATER FIRE, and THE HUMMINGBIRD TOLD ME ITS ALL GONNA BE ALRIGHT SO I GUESS IT REALLY WILL BE SO… The songs don’t come across as standalone singles compiled into one release, but instead organically establish the emotional and sonic identity that permeates the project.

Highlights include THE BOYZ ALL WENT TO JUPITER which immediately draws you in with its creative atmosphere and catchy melodic direction. It’s a listening experience that lingers long after it’s done, a balance of vulnerability and confidence. Underwater Fire carries the same potent energy, showing Kojo Kay’s ability to combine layered production with expressive vocal delivery, while still maintaining a clear artistic identity.

The new OVERTURE TO SOMEWHERE serves as a contemplative passageway to the EP’s conclusion. It adds to the cinematic quality of the project while highlighting the artist’s commitment to pushing melodic rap into more experimental territory. The last cut, BREAK JOHNNY, is a memorable exit for the listener, a perfect conclusion that connects the themes of movement, reflection, and creative evolution that run through the project.

THIS DOESN'T FEEL GOOD BEING STUCK HERE IN THE SAME SPOT :( is so fun because you can clearly feel the artistic intent. Every transition feels intentional, every song contributes to the narrative, and the sequencing creates a unified listening experience rather than a collection of songs. Throughout Kojo Kay’s wish to always push the boundaries of melodic rap is evident, providing us with an EP that is both intimate and progressive.
