German rapper OG Keemo explores loss, depression, fractured family ties and responsibilities on latest album BERSERKER+, weaving cinematic street-rap stylings with existential storytelling rooted in deeply personal experiences. Produced by Funkvater Frank, the album leans into a blend of 90s nostalgia and futuristic dystopian vibes, built on the pair's seamless creative partnership.
Across five tracks, held together by German rap legend Azad as a narrator figure, the album explores personal traumas and the nihilism of our time, framed by quiet resignation and powerful certainty in equal parts. From the haunting fuzzed out notes of "Chaos" to the anthemic instrumentation of "Hass," and the melodic yet glitchy lilt of focus single and album closer "Blind," the project is led by OG Keemo's easy ability to create connections through his rhythmic flow and crisp musicality.
Announced at the duo's sold-out Süd:Süd Festival with no teaser, no algorithm, but just a physical object alongside a four-part making documentary, the album stands out for its innovative reverse rollout. Speaking of the album and its release, he says, "We always want to do things differently and with BERSERKER, that becomes really visible. We released the bonus tracks of a deluxe edition before the album. We didn't announce the record with a teaser, but with 6,000 flyers in 6,000 hands at our own festival. And we let a documentary follow us through a process where, honestly, we ourselves didn't know if there would be an album at the end. If people take one thing from all this, I hope it's the feeling that there is still space in music for projects that aren't built backwards from a marketing plan. Just two friends, making the record they need to make."
With global appeal rooted in catchy soundscapes and meaningful narratives, OG Keemo continues to establish himself as a force to be reckoned with beyond genres and language.
