Laura Sumner is back again with an EP, "Purple Raging Flower," filled with deeply personal, emotionally rich songs. The project features six crafted songs and marks her second collaboration with Grammy award-winning producer Marc Swersky. The EP is a real listening experience, with a collection of heartfelt songwriting and memorable melodies that explore themes of love, loss, longing, freedom, and hope.
The first song, “Paperdoll,” has Sumner questioning the fine line of a relationship and the emotional control you can have over another. It’s about the duality of being loved and feeling vulnerable, and it sets the tone for a project based on honest self-exploration. Then “Goodtime Girl,” a bittersweet look at a woman who values independence over commitment. “Santa Rosa Sky” is a beautiful representation of heartbreak and healing after a relationship goes wrong.
The romantic ballad, “The LIE,” which was inspired by the thrill and anticipation of going to meet someone special, carries the emotional journey of the EP. At the same time, “He’s a Gypsy” explores an unusual platonic relationship between two characters grappling with the uncertainties of life and offers one of the most interesting character studies in the project.
The EP ends on a positive note with "The Key" offering hope for lasting love and emotional investment. “Purple Raging Flower” is an honest, compelling songwriting, and Marc Swersky’s production provides a clean, lush, sophisticated canvas for each story to shine. This EP remains an example of Laura Sumner’s artistic development and her capacity to translate the complexities of life into songs.
