Modern Woman announces new album 'Johnny's Dreamworld,' drops new single "Dashboard Mary"

Modern Woman is back with a bold and more refined sound. The London-based art rock group is set to usher in a new chapter with their new single, "Dashboard Mary." The single is a dive into the feeling of escapism and rush of blood that ends with a cinematic climax. "Dashboard Mary" is the lead single off Modern Woman's new album, Johnny's Dreamworld, out May 1 via One Little Independent Records.

Sophie Harris, the band's leading songwriter, makes sure the new album will reflect the journey the band has taken since blossoming from a solo project into a full-fledged band. “A vital theme I’ve always wanted in Modern Woman is the idea of conflicting things, of the tender/harsh, loud/quiet, and scrappy/polished. The style of everybody’s playing, drawing from a melting pot of influences, coming together to form something new,” Harris says about the work on the album.

Much like the album title, "Dashboard Mary" helps bring in a certain style that many feel right out of the gate with the band. Every note and vocal sound pierces through the void of mundane life. It's not like Modern Woman to offer such a glimpse into the creativity of the writing process, but they make an effort to bear it all on the new track.

“This is a song that I wanted to write like a film. I wanted to confront the feeling of the ‘morning after’ and the decisions made during that time of exhilaration, the night before,” Harris about "Dashboard Mary."

Modern Woman promises Johnny's Dreamworld to be full of shifting tones while maintaining a very raw narrative that bleeds between each track.  In addition to the album, Modern Woman announced they are joining Erza Furman on tour.
