Chicago's Abstract Mindstate have returned with a new song and video, "Bar Louie", featuring David Banner. Their debut album We Paid, Let Us In! reached cult status in the early 2000s, but the male and female pair comprised of Olskool Ice-Gre and E.P. Da Hellcat didn't get their first big break until 20 years later, long after they had already called it quits as recording artists. After connecting with their Midwest compatriot Young RJ for new music and touring in Europe with Slum Village in 2024, Gre and E.P. return now with renewed momentum and motivation on their new Young RJ-produced single "Bar Louie", featuring a blazing verse from David Banner.
"Bar Louie" contains hard-hitting, raw production based around distorted, hypnotic keys, punchy percussion, and rumbling, infectious bass. Atop the energetic, cathartic instrumentation, Olskool Ice-Gre, E.P. Da Hellcat, and David Banner trade blazing, lyrically sharp verses with a flurry of memorable lines that beckon re-winding. The new video, directed by Olskool Ice-Gre, captures the song's off-the-cuff, immediate energy with minimalistic shots that highlight the charismatic performances of the emcees, allowing the listener to zone in on their intricate lyrics and fiery deliveries.
The latest from Abstract Mindstate, "Bar Louie" finds them connecting with David Banner for a potent, gritty new release produced by Slum Village's Young RJ.
