Acclaimed vocalist, DJ, and activist NGAIO caught our ears and eyes with her new single "Goddess," which also comes equipped with a compelling visual. The song is the final single from her self-produced EP Four Quarters and is a gripping spiritual awakening anthem for women everywhere.
Backed by the rich and dynamic production comprised of sparse grooves, and brooding pads with soaring solemn strings, NGAIO reminds us how potent the connection is within women, the spiritual and physical plane if we all pay attention and look within.
Inspired by the centuries-long societal pressures placed on women by a biased patriarchal system, NGAIO aims to loosen the vice grip by providing women with the aspirational impetus to take back their strengths. Armed with a rich and distinct vocal tone, she delivers a soul-gripping performance that celebrates women's uniqueness and the need for self-expression and determination beyond what the world has set for them.
The accompanying visual employs a wide range of motifs to drive home its message. From scenic and moody lighting to expressive performance scenes with subtle motifs to eye-popping set pieces, viewers are taken through the emotions and phases as we see the growth and the evolution of NGAIO all in one breath. NGAIO was also recently a part of the Censored campaign highlighting the sexualization of female nipples, which was part of a city-wide exhibition addressing the hypocrisy and the consistent policing of women’s bodies.
