After dropping two back-to-back projects earlier this year, NY-based veteran emcee Homeboy Sandman returns with his new single "Satellite"—the lead track from his forthcoming full-length album Still Champion due for release on November 11th on Mello Music Group. "Satellite" sees him reconnecting with producer/rapper Deca whom he worked with last year on a one-off single "All Because of You (Infatuated Duke)." The record alone gave the duo the impetus to work on a full-length project and thus they started working on it in February of this year.
"Satellite" is quite layered and inspired by a number of things, the first of which is Homeboy Sandman's song Stroll from his 2014 album Hallways and his immediate environment. Over Deca's soothing and somewhat lumbering soundscape, Homeboy Sandman goes in-depth into the many things that make his hood tick and breaks it down with his characteristic subtle melody-tinged flow. Lines like "Seen a kid holding a wheelie on a bike without a front tyre while wearing a backpack, sneakers on a black wire" show how descriptive the rapper can get and it only gets better as the song progresses.
