Having worked on several EDM tracks as a vocalist, LA-based singer-songwriter Chelsea "chae" De Silva is no stranger to the music world. Her past work includes features with artists like William James and yetep’s 2018 collab “Light Up The Way,” and Rome In Silver’s “Friends” off his debut EP, Forever Flame. However, after a few years of exploration and self-discovery chae now seeks to make her own mark in the music industry with her debut single "Make You" and upcoming project.
"Make You" serves as the lead single off of chae's new EP Letters I'll Never Write, slated for release this summer. The track gives listeners a taste of what's to come on the six-track project, featuring themes of self-reflection, relationships, and personal growth.
Musically, "Make You" features an airy stripped-back R&B instrumental from producer kaiyo. The soft guitar chords interspersed with piano riffs form the perfect bed for chae's brilliant vocal melodies. Throughout the song, she touches on the process of dealing with an unrequited lover and the corresponding emotional highs and lows. Her lyrics echo this idea as chae reflects on her past relationship. "I bet you still be counting out your wins / What’s your high score? / Nah, I ain’t giving in to what you keep on hintin'."
De Silva also shared some insight into her journey of introspection when making the track: "'Make You' evidently taught me that being raw, uncut, and oversharing oneself isn't a weakness. I had been carrying inside of me a cruel expectation; that being a woman of worth meant forcing the ability to contain pain well and yet also maintain complete composure at the same time."
