Shaboozey gives ‘Modern Cowboy’ vibes on new single “Tall Boy” [Video]

Multifaceted musician Shaboozey tastefully combines hip-hop and country on latest release “Tall Boy.” The accompanying music video takes place in a local dive bar, as the artist locks eyes with a female patron as he raps each verse with a slight Southern drawl.

“Tall Boy” has a melodic hip-hop beat with snares and claps, while the slow guitar riff gives the instrumental a country sound. Shaboozey’s bars are fast and structured with a sophisticated rhythm. He vocalizes the hook for a deep blues inspired chorus as he harmonizes, “Give me a tallboy, I’ve been working too long boy.” The track is an uncomfortable yet satisfying listen, bridging the gap between urban rap and rural country western. The rapper stands among the crowd of the rustic bar, but also blends seamlessly into the laid back party aesthetic.

Inspired by Bob Dylan, Johnny Cash, Lead Belly, and Leonard Cohen, Shaboozey creates a subset of contemporary hip-hop all his own. Blending aspects of classic rock, country, and rap, his sound has a refreshing and relatable authenticity. “The 'Tall Boy' video was all about creating authentic moments and energy that match the song,” he says. “The video and song speak to working Americans, enduring the challenges life throws at them. At the end of the day, no matter how difficult things get, we could all use some Booze.”

I am a digital marketer and publicist with a passion for A&R and music management. Originally from Southern California, I spent many years as a transplant in the Midwest in the St. Louis and Chicago areas. Now I am back in sunny Los Angeles. Besides my professional life, I enjoy music of all genres with a sweet spot for hip-hop/rap. I love my west coast rap and all things Tupac, Kendrick, Nipsey, etc. I am always down to go to a show, whether the venue be the smallest hole in the wall or the largest arena.
