Rising NJ-based emcee Zack Kahn shares his new album Don't Talk, Just Listen, an 11-track body of work that was inspired and birthed out of the artist's sobriety. The project details his personal struggles, tribulations, and his journey through the dark patches. To bring all this to life he enlists the help of producers Witness, Tiu Sosefu, and NK Music who all craft the perfect sonic canvas for Kahn to paint his pictures.
The project opens up with "Let me tell ya," a punchy but somewhat moody track produced by Tiu Sosefu. Here, Kahn introduces us to some of the things that make him tick. From dreaming of success, struggling through his flaws, and finally getting back on track, he sure takes us through the ups and downs. On the solemn "Mind Lock," he goes into introspective mode as he details the effects of being addicted and lacking the strength to climb out of the doldrums. He switches the energy on "Look At Me," a piano-laden track that captures him in a celebratory mood as he flexes on the naysayers who said he would not amount to anything. The in-depth look into Kahn's life continues on "No Nav," a dark cinematic track ripe with ominous synths and punchy drums. Kahn tasks up the mantle of leadership and accountability by seeking his true path and shows listeners his mental resilience even when he is under pressure.
On "Onward" he employs a drill backdrop and delivers a fiery performance ripe with his distinct melodic flow and bravado-laden lyrics that dwell on maintaining a solid work ethic. This is followed by the hard-hitting “Better View” where he flexes his verbal muscles to the fullest. The project ends with the solemn "Same Thing (Outro)" and the aptly titled bonus track "Coping Mechanism." The former is a summary of his rocky road to success while the latter focuses on finding his own center through the madness.
Overall, Don't Talk, Just Listen runs through Zack Kahn's life in a snapshot and offers a heartfelt look at the struggles of addiction and hitting rock bottom while offering a beam of hope for people who might be in a similar situation.
