Pop artist LØLØ’s angst and honesty are admirable and infectious. If you’ve heard any of her other songs, you’ll know she’s bringing back that 2000s pop punk sound. However, she’s proving that she can make it timeless. Think of Avril Lavigne meets Beabadoobee and bülow. Already with a couple of singles out, today, LØLØ releases her new EP overkill.

It’s undeniable that LØLØ’s edginess and witty, ruthless lyrics steal the show. Just by the tracks’ names alone, it’s hard not to be a little curious what they sound like. Once you hit play, she delivers with grungy, gritty guitars and catchy melodies.

For example, the EP starts with “death wish” is her rendition of a love song. There’s a part that’s sick with herself for having romantic feelings right before she breaks into the chorus, "those three little words might as well be R.I.P., ugh!". She carries that same relatable self-deprecating tone in “lonely & pathetic.” “hurt less” is one of the newer tracks, set in a chilling fashion with thrashing guitars. “surgery” is definetly the most tender track on the EP. It lives up to its name, feeling like it’s cutting your heart open with just LØLØ alone with an acoustic guitar. One can clearly hear the catharsis that these songs have for LØLØ, and it’s that same liberation she wants to pass on to her fans.

In general, it seems like the pop punk scene is definitely reviving, and LØLØ further shows why we need its liberating and authentic is needed.

Listen to the EP overkill, out now via Hopeless Records.
