Jackson Whalan takes it a step further with the remix of "From the Woods" as he teams up with legendary emcee/activist KRS-One.
The original record which serves as an introductory track of some sorts details Whalan's humble life back in rural settings. Far from the madding crowd and boisterous city, he is fully at home, at peace, and doing the things he loves the most. This remix continues the theme and the master blaster himself sets the tone the only way he knows how. He gives listeners a few lessons about the DNA make-up of hip-hop and the way the culture unifies everyone regardless of their color and creed. Whalan follows it with how the music shaped him and also pays respects to those who came before him.
"From the Woods remix" is self-produced by Whalan with assistance from keyboardist and composer Ian Evans who also plays the Beck-inspired slide guitar riff. Other contributors include electric guitarist Robby Baier, violinist Kalia Yeagle while the string arrangement was handled by Grammy-winning musician Dave Eggar.
