Montreal-based producer and artist Janette King creates R&B fused electronica in new single “Airplane”, available now. The single also comes with the exciting announcement that King will release her debut album What We Lost on 25th June via Hot Tramp Records.
Her latest release and forthcoming project follows a slew of singles and EPs that have rippled across her hometown of Canada and beyond. Exploring themes of loss, from the heart-wrenching end of a relationship or the loss of a loved one as well as experiencing a loss of self, King’s “Airplane” depicts and faces these challenges head on. Acting as a healing mechanism and expressive outlet, “Airplane” is a swirling soundscape of R&B, electronica and pop that allows King to showcase her music in its rawest and most authentic form.
The accompanying video directed by Kenny McDonald visually compliments “Airplane”, that sees King channel her emotions through contemporary dance underneath immersive coloured lights. King’s upcoming album will see her delve deeper into the themes of change and loss but more importantly, learning to understand and accept it. King says:
"This is a song about coming to the realization that you need to let go of great love. Feeling angry that your lover wants to move away and that in turn, that means the end of the relationship. There is a sour energy to this song but there is also a sense of empowerment."
Recorded against the backdrop of last year’s Black Lives Matter protests, the message on her upcoming album has only grown more intense for King. Her exhilarating "Airplane" is the first single to come from the LP, offering a glimpse into King’s flourishing maturity with deeply personal and resonating elements amongst fresh sounds that cement Janette King as a firm one to watch.
