With a year filled with major L's, the Miami native, Aklesso's newest single "Worst Year" couldn't come at a better time. The new song, featuring Dove Award winner GAWVI, takes a snapshot of one of the hardest years the country has faced due to the pandemic and civil injustice. Aklesso takes some time to shed light on his own struggles through 2020 while also delivering some words of encouragement.
"Worst Year" is Aklesso's attempt at his own anthem. Dropping off a laundry list of 2020 losses, he pushes back with lyrical resilliance. "Got my dawgs out here, ain't no money nowhere/ But you ain't gon' catch me slippin/ I'm ridin' steady", he glides over the upbeat production. Reminscient of Lil Uzi's cadence, the energetic artist doesn't faulter on the track. Leaning on support from GAWVI on the hook, "Worst Year" teeters between genres. With no sign of 2020 taking its foot off our necks, "Worst Year" serves to bring hope.
Aklesso is looking to be unstoppable. Accompanying his latest song, he also delivered a short film last Friday via Youtube. The self-produced short film highlights the stories of some of his closest friends. Check out the film here.
